City of Darwin Libraries + LAUNCH are seeking 3-5 young artists to work collaboratively on an original hand-painted mural inside the Casuarina Library youth area.
We are looking for artists who would like to paint an original character as part of a mural with the theme “Darwin and other worlds”.
This opportunity is open to all Darwin-based artists 15-25 years of age. You don’t need any experience painting murals to apply!
Things we will consider when choosing the artists:
- Whether your style fits the theme of the mural and is suitable for a public space
- How well the chosen artists’ characters and styles work together
- The skill and creativity of the artist’s work
Applications close midnight on Tuesday 31 October
Applicants will be notified in early November about the outcome of their expression of interest. Please note you will need to be available for:
- Three workshops in November / early December (dates TBC)
- Four painting sessions across the weekends of December 9+10 and 16+17
Successful applicants will work collaboratively with a professional artist to integrate their different styles and characters into a cohesive and original work of art. The selected artists will receive a $150 honorarium for their participation in the program.
To apply, fill out the form below, then email 3 examples of your original character design work to youthprojects@darwin.nt.gov.au. If you like you can also submit an idea for an specific or new character that you’d like to see included in the mural. NB this is completely optional, we don’t require you to do unpaid design work to apply for this opportunity.
