D&D with Grimm

This year we are joined by a new Dungeon Master for the March-June editions of Geek Up. If you attended Geektacular 2024 or the school holiday D&D group at Casuarina Library (January 2023) you have likely met Grimm.

In order to manage the challenge of having different players each month Grimm will be running “Guild Style” D&D. Here’s the rundown on how it works …

“Imagine a club where you and your friends can embark on thrilling adventures together, like in a fantasy movie or video game. It’s like being part of a team where you create your own hero and go on epic quests. Every time you play, you earn points and treasures that make your hero stronger and help them find cool stuff. You can join whenever you want, and each adventure is like its own mini-movie, so you don’t have to commit to a long story. It’s all about having fun, working together, and becoming a legendary hero in your own right!”

Guild-style or consecutive play is akin to an organized guild for Dungeons & Dragons adventures. Just like Adventure League, it provides a structured and consistent experience for players across different sessions.

Here’s how it operates:

Structured Play: Guild-style or consecutive play adheres to specific rules and guidelines, ensuring a uniform experience for all participants, regardless of location or who’s leading the game.

Character Continuity: One of its core features is character continuity. Your character can seamlessly transition between sessions within the guild, maintaining their progress and story regardless of where you play, as long as everyone follows the guild’s rules for character creation and development.

Tiered Adventures: Guild-style or consecutive play often categorizes adventures into tiers based on character levels. This helps ensure that players with similar levels of experience are grouped together, promoting balanced and engaging gameplay. Tiers typically range from beginner-friendly (Tier 1) to high-level challenges (Tier 4).

Short Modules: Adventures within this style are usually shorter modules designed to be completed in a single session or a few consecutive sessions. This allows for flexible participation, accommodating players who may not commit to long-term campaigns.

Rewards and Progression: Players earn rewards such as experience points, treasure, or other benefits for completing guild adventures. These rewards contribute to character advancement, allowing players to improve their abilities, acquire new gear, or unlock special features.

Hope to see you at our D&D table sometime soon!
