Join us for an evening on the ice for FREE-ze Skate at Darwin’s only ice-skating rink! This ever-popular event is running for one night during the January school holidays and is the perfect way to beat the heat and have some fun with other young people.

This event is an exclusive session for ages 12-20 only.

A registration is essential for this FREE event as spaces are limited.
Bookings will open 9am Tuesday 14 January.

In order to ensure that this event remains accessible to young people across our community, we ask that you reserve no more than 2 spaces when booking.

FREE-ze Skate is a drug and alcohol free event, this includes tobacco and vapes.

You won’t receive a confirmation message when registering but an event reminder text will be sent 2 days prior!

Accessibility Information

  • Darwin Ice Skating Centre is located in Eaton near Darwin Airport, approximately 1.1km from the closest bus stop on Bagot Road.
  • There is a large carpark in front of the building, which has 2 allocated and signed wheelchair accessible car spaces directly in front of the entrance.
  • The entrance has accessible double door entry, and there is ample space to move around once inside.
  • There are a number of table and chairs available to sit at, as well as raised platform style seating alongside the rink.
  • The venue has an accessible bathroom on site, which is located inside the building on the opposite side of the rink.
  • There will be a free bag of popcorn and a free hot chocolate given to each person at the event to collect whenever they like throughout the evening, and there is food and drink available for purchase from the venue’s kiosk.
  • There will be music playing over the speakers throughout the event, and the main lights will turn off for the last half hour of the evening with the rink instead being lit by overhead lights in various colours.
  • There will be approximately 60 young people skating at the event and it can be quite a loud venue where sound echoes.
  • The venue is cold inside, so warm clothes including socks and jumpers are highly recommended.
  • If you required assistance on the date, there will be 2 City of Darwin staff working who are trained in first aid, as well as 4-5 staff from Darwin Ice Skating Centre.
  • Support workers are welcome.
