FAQ

Q What types of sports are competing?
A Freestyle scootering. Quads (freestyle park skating with roller skates). Freestyle park BMX. Park skateboarding.

Q What is the difference between OPEN & JUNIOR divisions?
A It all comes down to skating at the level you’re comfortable with. OPEN divisions usually have competitors aged 18+ however younger skaters with lots of confidence and skill are able to opt for this division.

Q I’m a parent. Do I need to sign something?
A YES PLEASE. We have a waiver form that MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE COMPETING as well as a documentation waiver for the City of Darwin. Any competitor aged 17 or younger must have their waivers signed by an adult. If you would like to do this before the day email us and we’ll send you a copy: youthprojects@darwin.nt.gov.au

Q Will there be food for sale?
A Yes. So bring a bit of cash if you reckon you’ll get hungry. We also supply free fruit snacks to competitors.

Q Do I have to wear a helmet?
A Yes. All competitors must wear a helmet.

Q How much does it all cost?
A It’s free to spectate and compete. There will be food for sale on the day which costs money.

Q Can I bring my young children to Street Heat?
A You sure can! We recommend that anyone 12 or under should be supervised by an Adult and ask that you keep an eye on your family at all times. This is because we often see an influx of park use during the competition and users vary greatly in skill sets.

Q Is this event documented?
A Yes. Photos and video will be used for future LAUNCH and City of Darwin promotion. If this is an issue for you or your family please notify staff on the day so we can inform our photographers.

Q Is this event dog friendly?
A Whilst it is not encouraged to bring dogs to Street Heat any canine friend who happens to drop in MUST be on a leash for the safety of everyone present.

Q Who is running this competition?
A LAUNCH Darwin, City of Darwin’s Youth Projects Department. Street Heat is affiliated with the Australian Skateboarding Federation.

Q How often does Street Heat happen?
A We host 2 events annually. The first event is held at the beginning of the dry season and is a Northern Territory Youth Week event in April. The second is held before the wet season returns; later in the year.
